Notes

The map features the new Northern line extension to Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station which opened in September 2020. The map features many minor adjustments in the surrounding area to accommodate this.

On the map, the Heathrow Terminal 4 station label remains stroked through with a red lien to indicate it's closure (until further notice, due to Covid 19).

The "Check before you travel" section features the same notes as the December 2020 map - but with the addition of a note: "South Kensington: Piccadilly line trains not stopping until spring 2022".

The blue info box below the "Check before your travel" section has also been updated since the December 2020 map as follows:
- The note about amended station opening hours due to coronavirus has been removed
- The note about no service until further notice on the Waterloo & City line has been removed

The note about no Night Tube or Night Overground service remains.

For the first time in recent years, a reference number has appeared on the map in the lower left hand corner between the disclaimer and copyright notice.

The December 2020 map noted that the TfL Visitor Centres were closed until further notice in the Explanation of symbols" section on the rear cover. This note about the closure has been removed for this September 2021 map.

Features the same advert for the "TfL Go" mobile app on the rear cover.

The cover features artwork with the words "sit alongside and feel me breathe" which feels controversial to some for two reasons:

1) Covid-19 (an airborne virus) is still prevalent, so the thought of feeling other people breathing in close proximity isn't something many will feel comfortable doing
2) When holding the map at the bottom with your left hand, the word "breathe" is covered up by your thumb, leaving "sit alongside and feel me"

There was a 9 month gap between the release of the previous map (December 2020, and this one - the longest time without a new map release in recent years. This was likely due to a combination of the Covid-19 pandemic waiting for the new Northern line extension to open.
